IN Anthony Shaffer’s 1970 drama – an eccentric, games-obsessed detective writer (VINCENT ADAMS) and the young fellow who “wants to marry his wife”
(DANIEL SCOTT) lock horns and find ingenious ways to terrify each other, as their peculiar duel almost brings them closer together, while Shaffer plays games with English notions about well made murder, marriage and class, amongst other things.
Director HANNAH WOOD keeps us guessing throughout this production, which is graced by a very handsome set and lively props and effects.
Both actors show great versatility in a night packed with suspense and food for thought under the surface.
Adams’ distinguished author lets himself go splendidly, Scott proves equal to his demanding role and the two have a great rapport that carries us along.
Titchfield Festival Theatre has a couple of intriguing projects coming – a “fundraising adventure” on kickstarter.com and a poetry competition tied to their Shakespeare season.
