JUNIOR Hampshire Youth Theatre is returning this summer for young people aged 9-13 interested in creating a new play in one week!
The Nuffield Theatre has run the prestigious Hampshire Youth Theatre for 14-21-year-olds for the past 14 years. Last year they piloted a junior version for younger theatre makers aged nine to 13.
Participants rehearsed every day for a week and, on the final day, performed Beowulf in front of a large audience on the Main Stage.
This year’s production will be In The Heart of the Wood, a collection of stories drawn from classic fables, myths and fairy tales – a story of curses, betrayals, bravery and love, with heroes and monsters, Kings and Queens and even the occasional dwarf.
Adapted again by Nuffield Theatre associate director Russ Tunney, the cast will be creating a world deep in the forest, lost in the swirling winds and low hanging fog, where something stirs! A brief glimpse of fur, glowing eyes, and the light reflected off a brandished sword… The dates are July 29 to August 3 and the cost for the week is £110.
