A GROUP of feisty Yorkshire WI members pose nude to produce an “alternative” calendar as they raise funds in memory of one of their husbands.
Based on a true story, directors David Balfour and Emma Buck succeeded in achieving the fine balance between comedy and pathos, ensuring characters had depth and personality.
Di Buck (Chris) and Sarah Short (Annie) shared a believable camaraderie as longtime friends, Buck with an authentic Yorkshire accent and excellent comic timing, and Short particularly moving with her more poignant moments and chemistry with on-stage husband John (Tim Schuler). Schuler himself was magnificent in the role of her stoic husband.
Michelle Bradley-Harris was wonderful as down-trodden Ruth, capturing the essence of her character brilliantly. All six main women had their moments to shine and there were great cameos from Neville Green, Emma Buck and David Foote.
A well designed set easily transferred locations between the village hall and hillside.
