THE second part of the Laramie Project Cycle was based on Tectonic Theatre Company’s return to Laramie and quest to resolve unanswered questions and explore opinion a decade on from the murder of Matthew Shepard.
Less dramatic and hard hitting, more reflective than its predecessor, it nevertheless shared a structure and DNA with the first play.
Very much companion pieces, the one lent greater insight and meaning to the other.
The clever device of progressively covering the painting representing Matthew Shepard as the action unfolded and truth became more obscured was a neat dramatic counterpoint to the gradual uncovering of the painting in the previous play as the truth became known.
Technically every bit as adept as its predecessor, it was equally blessed by an accomplished and versatile cast who gave their all. A much shorter piece, it moved with brisk economy, but never felt overly rushed.
