Playwright Ian Hornby passed away suddenly, shortly before Christmas, and this farce was his final work.
The implausible plot-line has three members of Abbeywood Bowling team staking-out their clubhouse from Thursday night until Saturday afternoon, to deter deadly rivals West Worth from sabotaging their bowling-green ahead of a decisive replay, the initial meeting having ended acrimoniously.
Why they imagined they would need to do that remained a mystery.
Alan Dester was very confident as Abbeywood’s neurotic chairman Sam, ably supported by Tom Martin (Alex) and, especially, Shelley Seager as ditzy blonde Bobby.
Policewoman Pat (Jeanie Ellis) turns up to investigate why they are there and ends up drunk on illicit vodka, knocked-out and locked away, followed by her colleague Les (Peter Wright) who meets a similar fate.
The most memorable aspect was the fantastic set (Dudley Eales), but unfortunately the loud disco music from the adjacent social club was a distraction!
