A CLASSIC American play being staged in London will be screened to cinemas across the south on Tuesday, September 16.

X Files star Gillian Anderson plays the part of Blanche DuBois in Tennessee William’s timeless masterpiece A Streetcar Named Desire at the |Young Vic.

Set in New Orleans, the fading Southern belle Blanche finds that her fragile world is crumbling. 

She turns to her sister Stella (Vanessa Kirby) for solace – but her downward spiral brings her face to face with Stella’s brutal, unforgiving husband, Stanley Kowalski (Ben Foster). 

Visionary director Benedict Andrews returns to the Young Vic following his triumph with his Critics’ Circle Award-winning Three Sisters.

As part of the National Theatre’s programme of screening live productions to cinemas, it can be seen at the Odeon and Harbour Lights Picturehouse cinemas in Southampton, the Vue in Eastleigh, the Everyman in Winchester and the Regent in Christchurch, among others.
