Peartree United Reformed Church, Woolston King Arthur’s knights aren’t good enough company for him of a winter’s evening, so he sends a marriage proposal (with bags of gold and silver) to the fair Guinevere.

Her mother, Queen Spend-the Lot, has hit hard times and couldn’t be more pleased with the offer. Unfortunately, she has a second daughter, Verucca, who is not nearly so nice, and Guinevere’s other suitor is her rascally neighbour King John. Between them, things start to go awry.

An enthusiastic and mainly youthful cast performed this lively pantomime from writer-directors Eddy and Kieron King. The singing and acting laurels go to the “baddies”, especially Mordred (Marie Slade) and Stinker (Lottie King) who had the audience booing enjoyably, and to King John (Kieron King) and Verucca (Katie Lawton) who made a delightfully diabolical pair. Some missed cues did nothing to mar the pleasure of the evening. This is just the show to warm up an icy night.
