IT was a change of scenery for The Nuffield’s monthly comedy fix which is usually held in the theatre’s cosy café bar.
Luckily the theatre was still small enough for everyone in the Big Gig’s line-up to quickly build a rapport with the audience – made up of all ages from students to pensioners.
Judging by the chortles all around me, the three comedians who took to the stage all proved to be big crowd pleasers.
Comical musical maestro Rob Deering’s self penned lyrics to everything from Beyonce to The Everly Brothers and Simon Munnery’s quirky gags had me laugh out loud many times.
But for me the highlight was the man who was the well deserved headline act of the night – Russell Kane, pictured.
Whether he was skipping on stage popping fun at students, revelling in the Brits love of moaning or telling tales of growing up in Southend-on-Sea, his set was funny from start to finish, if at times endearingly chaotic.
All three acts were introduced by MC Stephen Grant who was great at getting everyone in the mood for a night of great comedy.
Some picked on members of the front row might disagree but sitting there what can you expect?
Russell Kane will appear at The Nuffield Theatre’s studio on February 8. The next Nuffield Comedy Bar will take place at the studio on February 22. Both shows start at 8pm. For more details call the box office on 023 8067 1771.
