Uncomfortable, discordant and brilliant describe Showstoppers’ production of Jekyll and Hyde. Henry Jekyll (Jake Snowdon) really got under the skin of the character (and the audience) in this emotional and changeable role. He battled to control the emerging and strengthening monster, Edward Hyde (Matthew Ronchetti) whose evil and demented performance had people quaking in their seats. The principal girls, Lucy Harris (Stephanie Amies) and Emma Carew (Megan Gibson) were just right for the parts and provided both contrast but a united vulnerability as they interacted with Jekyll and his alter-ego.

All the cast were superb and the direction and production (Akhil Gowrinath and Steve Hosking) was considered and at times completely inspiring. Equally the almost operatic music and singing was of an excellent standard led by the musical director (Teddy Clements) and the choreography was innovative and tight. Every element of the production had been executed with skill and vision and held together a compelling show.
