This is Mary Zimmerman’s retelling of several of Ovid’s tales, mostly in simple and straightforward language, with some poetic moments, such as Orpheus’ first speech, beautifully delivered by Ian Watts and accompanied by Hannah Griffiths delicately playing on a miniature guitar.

When Eurydice (Molly Ward) has her fatal moment the action is slowed down and repeated.

Players and audience circle round a pool of water, while the next bit of action could take place anywhere, from the pool to the gangway high overhead.

This is dynamic and interesting but one can miss details of the action and I wondered if a crisper and brighter lighting scheme could have imposed more rhythm on the piece.

Tim Berryman, cast and crew of dozens work enthusiastically to bring the drama, humour and eroticism of the myths to life.
