IN the week that runs up to the football World Cup, Romsey’s drama group RAODS has a sporting alternative on offer – Chris England’s comedy Breakfast with Jonny Wilkinson.
Set on the day in 2003 when England won the Rugby World Cup, the play explores the tensions and rivalries of a group of fans as they gather at their local clubhouse to watch the England-Australia match.
The club’s ground is under threat from local developers and club coach Matt, a brash Australian, is forcing an election because he’s after the chairman’s job. There are plenty of dirty tricks, affairs and mistakes in this farce, which should appeal to rugby fans and non-fans alike.
Breakfast with Jonny Wilkinson kicks off at The Plaza Theatre on Tuesday and runs until Saturday.
