WINCHESTER’S Chesil theatre present one of Alan Ayckbourn’s most popular plays as their October production.
Bedroom Farce was commissioned in 1974 for the soon-to-be-opened National Theatre.
The action takes place in three bedrooms but it is not a traditional farce with slammed doors and dropped trousers – instead a moving account of four couples during one eventful night. Malcolm and Kate are holding a house warming party, Jan and Nick have been invited but Nick has hurt his back and cannot attend, Ernest and Delia are celebrating their wedding anniversary. Trevor, their son, and his wife Susannah descend on each of them in turn oblivious to the chaos they cause in other peoples’ lives.
Director Nicky Pink said: “As well as the tremendous comedy, the cast are finding moments of great warmth and tenderness in their characters.”
The play opens tomorrow and then runs from Monday to Saturday.
