AS the Christmas lights go up in Romsey and thoughts turn towards Christmas celebrations, RAODS is offering the ideal night out with Noises Off, a farce by Michael Frayn.

This hilarious romp is a farce about a farce, a play within a play. Michael Frayn says he got the idea when he was working on a farce and saw it from backstage, and realised it was even funnier seen from behind!

The opening is with a touring company dress rehearsing Nothing On, a conventional farce, and the second act demonstrates what goes on behind the scenes with a melee of stock characters and situations.

There is stampeding in and out of doors, voices rise and trousers fall!

This is a sharp, fast-moving and very funny play that has delighted audiences since it first appeared in the1980s, and which, thanks to some snappy rewriting by the author, is as fresh now as it was then.

■ Noises Off runs at Romsey’s Plaza Theatre from Monday to Saturday. Tickets: 01794 512987.
