YOU may well believe a man can fly at a major Hampshire pantomime this Christmas.

Peter Pan takes flight next Wednesday at Winchester’s theatre Royal, with the actors zooming around the stage on hire wires.

Director James Barry said they had been thinking about putting Peter Pan on at the theatre for some time.

He said: “We have been talking about doing Peter Pan for the last three years, but we felt we were ready this year.

“It’s by far the most technical show we have ever done here and we had to feel we were technically ready before we brought it in.”

Production designer Rachel Fox said: “In our space its reasonably difficult to do flying because we have relatively tight wing space, but it’s a challenge and a good challenge keeps me going.”

Mr Barry is confident that everything will be alright on the night.

He said: “I hope we don’t literally bring the house down, but I think its going to look fantastic.”

● The pantomime opens on Wednesday, December 8, with tickets ranging from £8 to £20 available at the box office on 01962 840440.
