WITH a new script based on the original French tale, there was definitely more tribute here to the Brothers’ Grimm than the Disney version!

Act One was a condensed rendition of the familiar tale of Sleeping Beauty (Princess Aurora); the ‘sequel’ was performed after the interval as Aurora, now married and with children of her own, meets her ogress mother-in-law (who has a most unsavoury appetite). Surreal, and at times downright bloodthirsty, the youngsters had enormous fun creating their gruesome tale!

In TYT’s first major production, the youngsters were enthusiastic, focused, showing discipline and teamwork, good movements to portray their make-believe images (such as the creation of the carriage and chariot), clear voices and potential for development was in evidence.

Good scenery and music choices (with a surreal combination of Darth Vader’s theme and Tchaikovsky’s ballet music) added to the production, but the lighting was rather random and distracting.
