She is the candidate with “on the job experience” and has promised not to let politics get in the way of making the right decisions for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Jacqui Rayment says that serving on Hampshire Police Authority and chairing the group for the past six years has given her the knowledge she needs to be the first elected Police and Crime Commissioner in the county.

She lists her priorities as frontline policing, staff morale, antisocial behaviour, supporting victims and tackling rural crime.

One of the first jobs she would do if elected would be to appoint a new chief constable.
But she says she does not want a clone of Alex Marshall, who has recently resigned from the position.

She added: “I think there’s a number of qualities I would look for – someone that’s progressive and a visionary chief constable.

“I wouldn’t want a clone of Alex Marshall; while I think he’s excellent, I think the force needs to move on.”

On the issue of a vetting procedure for the new Police and Crime Commissioner, she says she has already been vetted to the highest level as part of her work on Hampshire Police Authority.

She said: “I think it’s extremely important that whoever is Police and Crime Commissioner is vetted to the right level and I’m very surprised that it wasn’t mandatory.”

Mrs Rayment says that what makes her stand out from other candidates is her experience.

She said: “As chairman of the Hampshire Police Authority, I have basically done the Police and Crime Commissioner job, albeit with slightly different responsibilities, for the last six years.
“I have knowledge, on-the-job experience and I know Hampshire and the Isle of Wight really well.

“I have also never let my personal politics get in the way of making the right decision for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.”
