FOR some people saving the lives of ordinary people is an “automatic” reaction.

That is how Scott McLeod described how he felt when he saw Maureen Magee, 76, of Sholing, collapse in front of him in Southampton city centre.

It is because of his quick thinking that another selfless hero living in the heart of our community has been rewarded.

The Daily Echo is awarding December’s winner of the Hampshire Heroes Awards, co-sponsored by First bus company, to Debenhams restaurant supervisor Scott, 46, who put his first aid training into action and “did what anyone would have done”.

“I don’t think I did anything that anyone else wouldn’t have done. I was just glad I could help,” said the selfless Scott, grateful for the award.

The awards honour those who have gone the extra mile for those people in their neighbourhood.

First’s general manager in Hampshire and Dorset, Dervla McKay, said: “It sounds like Scott really was the right person at the right time.

“When Maureen was in need of a good Samaritan he came to the rescue, thinking on his feet to put his first aid skills to good use, calling the emergency services and even phoning her family. It’s brilliant that Maureen has been able to thank Scott in this way and celebrate his brave actions with us all. Well done Scott, you are a well-deserved Hampshire Hero."
