IT’S one way of saving water.
Forget the rubber duck, one Southampton Solent University student has been sharing the bathtub with a host of touring bands visiting the city.
In The Tub began as a uni project dreamed up by music promotion students Tom Mitchell, Sam Elliot and Tom Yeo.
But the chats by stand-up comedian Andy Field – pictured left in picture with pop punk band The Bottom Line – became such a sensation, they decided to create the website Critical Wave to showcase their work.
The rather unusual interviews – including one with US band OPM whose song Heaven Is A Halfpipe charted around the world – have now gone viral, attracting nearly 15,000 YouTube views.
Sam Elliot told the Echo: “With some bands it’s quite easy to persuade them, they are up for anything to get themselves some exposure. But it was quite difficult to get started without any footage.
“Since we’ve got a few videos done, the reaction has been incredible and people have really loved the concept. Bands get interviewed every day and they get a bit bored with it, but this is just so different.
“We’d like to take it to the next level and interview some really big bands.
“The bathtime interview we all want is Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters and I reckon he’d do it, but I can’t imagine we’ll just find him passing by in Southampton, which is why we plan to take an inflatable bathtub or paddling pool on tour to festivals. We want to take the tub to the bands.”
