RAIL services have been delayed for up to an hour after a man was struck by a train at a Hampshire station this afternoon.
Commuters at Hilsea train station witnessed the incident as they were waiting to get home.
Officers from British Transport Police were called to the station at 5pm along with officers from Hampshire Police and paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident which is currently being treated as non-suspicious,” a British Transport Police spokesman said.
The train involved was the 16.30 London Waterloo to Portsmouth and Southsea service. “He must have walked straight through the station and jumped off the edge of the platform,” one witness said.
Hilsea station has been completely cordoned off since the incident this afternoon The incident will mean trains to Fareham, Havant and Portsmouth Harbour will be delayed until further notice.
