A WATER search for a man who jumped off the Itchen Bridge in Southampton has been called off.
Hampshire police are now trying to establish the identity of the man that was seen jumping from the Southampton Bridge on Monday evening.
A missing person inquiry is now underway and officers are in the process of contacting the next of kin of the person who they think fell from the bridge.
As previously reported, officers were called at about 6pm after a man was seen standing over the guard rails of the bridge by passers by.
However, he was seen to jump shortly after the emergency services arrived.
Hampshire Marine unit and HM Coastguard launched a search of the water which was resumed on Tuesday, but no body has been recovered.
A police spokesman said: “We are conducting inquiries to establish the identity of that person who fell from the bridge.”
