HAMPSHIRE families could save up to £200 a year on their gas and electricity bills under a new scheme.
County council bosses are setting up a “bulk buying” initiative that will enable customers to combine their purchasing power and get a better deal from utility companies.
Total savings across Hampshire could reach £25m.
The county council is working with other local authorities across Hampshire to set up the collective energy switching service – which will not cost taxpayers a penny.
It will appoint an organisation to register customers and negotiate with energy companies on their behalf to get the best deal for the group.
