JUST when you thought it may well be over – brrrace yourself for some more snow.

The Met Office has warned Southampton and Hampshire to expect more snow flurries on Monday, although they should not be as heavy as yesterday when the county saw about 11cm fall.

The blanket of snow will be with us for a while yet, as forecasters predict the thawing process will be slow as temperatures remain low, dropping to -1C for most of tomorrow.

This means that ice will be a major concern for all those brave enough to venture outside, with the Met Office issuing high risk ice warnings throughout the weekend.

Today will mostly be dull and cloudy with a small chance of light snow flurries.

Bitter easterly winds will persist through the day, with maximum temperatures hitting 1C.

Tomorrow will be even colder but the winds are expected to ease.

It will, however, be much warmer on Monday, despite the return of the snow and sleet showers. It starts cold at -1C but temperatures should reach the balmy heights of 3C by 3pm.

Charles Powell, Met Office forecaster, said: “There is more snow on the way for Hampshire but at this stage we cannot be sure quite how heavy it will be.

“At the moment it doesn’t look as disruptive as it was yesterday but there will definitely be further snowfall.

“Ice really will be the major concern for those in Hampshire as the snow is not going to thaw out quickly.”
