Police in Hampshire are seeking information from anyone who witnessed the racial abuse and assault on a doorman.
It happened when one a group of men was refused entry to a pub because he had no identification at 11.40pm on Saturday.
This man then tried to gain entry at the rear of the pub at the Sir John Baker pub in London Road, North End, Portsmouth.
When he was refused again, he returned to the front and racially abused the doorman before head butting him in the face.
The offender ran off along London Road towards the Iceland store.
PC Dan Neligan is appealing for help from witnesses who were having their identification checked at the time of the incident.
“The victim was subjected to a level of racist verbal abuse, which is wholly unacceptable. But the suspect then resorted to violence against the victim who was diligently completing one of his main job roles,” PC Neligan said.
“At the time of the abuse, the victim was checking other patrons’ identification. Were you entering the pub at that time?
"Did you hear the abuse or witness the assault? Did you recognise the offender? Any information, however small, will assist the progress of this investigation.”
Anyone with information about the racial abuse and assault is asked to contact PC Neligan at Fratton on 101.
