Elderly people would benefit from a proposed £10.5m housing scheme in Hampshire.
Winchester City Council has bid for a Government grant of £1.8m to help fund the Extra Care sheltered accommodation scheme.
One of the sites considered is likely to be the city council’s open air car park in Chesil Street.
The proposals are for about 50 one- and two-bedroom flats with communal areas like a dining room.
The Department of Health has made £300m available for sheltered schemes through its Homes and Community Agency, and the results will be announced in May.
More detailed plans would then be drawn up and brought before the Cabinet.
The scheme could be completed within two years.
