FOR more than 200 ladies from the Hampshire Women’s Institute, it was the icing on the cake.
They received hot tips from Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry, who was the VIP guest at a WI fundraising dinner at The Concorde Club in Eastleigh.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, the Queen of Cakes, who has written more than 80 cookery books which have sold more than five million copies, said that the WI had played a vital role in keeping the flame of British baking alive.
She said: “The WI themselves have many cookery books now. Over the years you can guarantee that the recipes that members do are always updated classics ones. They have kept all the traditional cooking going and have added their own new twist.”
The dinner aimed to raise funds for the WI in Hampshire for its packed calendar of activities.
