HAMPSHIRE museum has launched a new exhibition to mark the 200th anniversary of the publication of one of the bestloved books in the English language – Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
Austen’s former home at Chawton House, near Alton, unveiled The Story of Pride and Prejudice to mark the bicentenary yesterday.
It explores the story of the novel, the history of its writing and what it means to visitors to the museum today.
Among the treasures on show will be the letter Jane wrote to her sister Cassandra on first receiving her copy of the book.
Jane refers to her novel as "my own darling child".
