- More women (54 per cent) than men (46 per cent) have signed up to the organ donor register.
- Thirty per cent of people joining the register are aged between 16 and 25. Twenty five per cent are aged between 26 and 35, while eight per cent are 65 or over when they join.
- The largest source of people joining the ODR is those who complete the relevant tickbox section when applying for their provisional driving licence.

- Black people are three to four times more likely as the general population to need a kidney transplant.
- More than 500 black people need a transplant, but under one per cent of organ donors are black.
- The need for organs in the Asian community is more than three times higher than the general population, because illnesses such as diabetes, kidney disease and heart disease occur more often in the Asian population.
