HE IS DESCRIBED as the coolest man on the planet and he is coming to the south with support artists not to miss.

Brazilian musician Seu Jorge visits The Anvil tonight supported by fellow Brazilians AfroReggae and British jazz DJ Gilles Peterson.

Seu Jorge became famous to a wider audience for his performance in gangster movie City of God and singing in the quirky movie hit The Life Aquatic where he memorably performed bossa nova versions of Bowie songs in Portuguese.

He already had quite a following in international music circles for his highly politicised songs about the slums of Brazil. Recently the subject of a South Bank Show, he is seen as the true voice of the people.

At the concert in Lighthouse Seu Jorge will sing old songs, some of the Bowie songs and premier work from his forthcoming album.

AfroReggae are a 13-person band, also originally from the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Their mix of samba, reggae and hip-hop has brought considerable international success. Earlier this year they supported the Rolling Stones on Copacabana Beach.

Gilles Peterson is currently a DJ on Radio 1 but is well known as a club and radio DJ who champions jazz, latin, world and funk music. His compilation CDs are hugely popular. He will be the DJ at the concert from 7.30 onwards and introducing the Brazilian acts.
