A PET dog who provided therapy to hundreds of sick patients is at the centre of a bizarre custody battle.

Lunar the Labrador was taken away without warning from her carer Alexandra Hughes amid claims that there were concerns for the dog's welfare.

But today, Miss Hughes, a commanding officer with the Salvation Army, branded the allegations as "fictitious" and said she will fight the charity - the Labrador Lifeline Trust - all the way to get four-year-old Lunar back home.

Her battle to be reunited with the dog she adopted two and a half years ago is being supported by residents, church goers, councillors and MPs who have written letters of support and are demanding answers from the charity
