CLINICAL trials into ground-breaking cancer treatments will continue in Southampton thanks to a funding boost worth millions.
The University of Southampton’s Clinical Trials Unit has received funding that will pay for a further five years of clinical trials in the city.
The £2.2m grant from Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Awards and Advisory Committee will come into effect in October.
Professor Diana Eccles, director of the unit, said that the money will enable the team to improve outcomes for patients by delivering high-quality, robust clinical trials.
The 40-man unit, based at Southampton General Hospital, arranges trials for a number of cancers, including lymphoma and haematological malignancy and urological cancers, as well as immunotherapy and surgical trials.
Professor Eccles said: “The trials we help facilitate shape the future treatments given for a wide range of aggressive cancers.
“We are delighted to receive the grant, which is testament to the hard work of everyone in the unit and to the organisations that support us.”
