A MODEL and hairdresser combined their talents to show they are a cut above the rest when they scooped first prize in a unique styling competition.

The pair won the regional "cut and swap" competition, in which the model is responsible for drying and styling their own hair after it has been cut.

Hairdresser Amy Higham, who co-owns the Trevor Mitchell salon in Woolston, Southampton, said the format was designed to reflect what actually happens in the real world.

She won by giving model Michelle Riley a fashionable graduated bob, currently being made popular by the likes of Victoria Beckham.

Amy said she was delighted to have won a contest that reflects the work she does in the salon.

"I don't really do that many competitions because of the preparation involved, so I was really pleased to get top marks and come first," she said.
