YOUNG readers in Hampshire were able to step inside the world of a popular children's author and illustrator when he visited Fair Oak Infant School.
David Melling is well-known among young people for his colourful stories and creative characters that grip the imagination.
Visiting the Year 2 pupils, the author, whose novels include The Kiss That Missed and Fidget and Quilley Catch Rainbows, gave a talk to 120 six and seven-year-olds and demonstrated how he comes up with his ideas for stories and drawings.
Before signing copies of his books for the youngsters, he also invited them to join him in coming up with new characters and stories.
Head teacher Hazel Shaw said the visit was a big success.
"The children really warmed to him and were very interested when he demonstrated how he came up with his ideas," she said.
