CAMPAIGNERS fighting against plans to put fluoride in Hampshire’s water supplies are turning up the pressure on council chiefs to axe the project.
Hampshire Against Fluoridation will hold a demonstration outside Southampton City Council offices in the Civic Centre tomorrow at 12.30pm.
Since the Southern Health Authority was scrapped at the end of March, Public Health England has still pushed on with the plan to add fluoride to parts of Hampshire’s water.
But councillors can now vote to say if they want the proposed scheme scrapped.
Hampshire Against Fluoridation chairman John Spottiswoode said: “The issue is that it is now a political decision. The politicians need to be made aware of the feeling against fluoride. They can vote against fluoridisation because it is not an existing scheme and put a stop to it.”
After the demonstration, there will be a meeting in Southampton Solent University’s James Matthew Building in Above Bar Street, Southampton, from 2-4pm.
Speaking at the meeting will be Irish anti-fluoride campaigner Aisling Fitzgibbon.
