A DRIVER was killed when a deer was thrown into the path of his car after being hit by another vehicle in the New Forest.

The 38-year-old dad suffered fatal injuries in the crash on the A35 at Beckley Common, near Highcliffe, yesterday evening.

A Saab driven by a 45-year-old man from Highcliffe hit the deer first, causing the animal to be thrown into the path of the other car.

The man who died, from Watford, was driving a Ford C-Max with his 38-year-old partner and their two children, aged six and 18 months, inside. They suffered minor injuries and were taken to Southampton General Hospital.

The driver of the Saab was unhurt but suffered shock.
