POLICE are appealing for information about two men seen fleeing from the scene of a suspected arson attack on a New Forest house.

The unoccupied three-bedroom terraced house in Heather Road, Blackfield, was set alight. The front door was smashed open.

Two men were spotted running away from the scene.

Police want to speak to anyone who may have seen the men in Heather Road around the time of the fire, or the owner of a silver saloon car, which was parked on the driveway of the house the previous evening.

Thirteen firefighters, including crews from Hardley and Beaulieu, were called to the fire at 2.44am on Saturday morning.

Furniture in the living room was found to be alight causing extensive damage to the ground floor.

The whole building, which is owned by New Forest District Council, was left severely smoke logged. No one was hurt.
