FLORENCE Cake celebrated her 100th birthday with a family party at her home of 70 years in Holbury.
Florence, pictured above with family members and right as a young woman, can clearly remember the 1914-18 First World War when injured soldiers convalesced at local mansions.
"I had to start work at 14 and went into service in the big houses and the boys went onto the farms. They were happy times. We were well looked after but I was sad I had to leave school so early with no education."
Florence puts her longevity down to clean living and healthy eating. "I'm tremendously fond of vegetables - my father grew them all. I'm a big vegetable eater and I used to ride my bike a lot."
Her daughter Jean Hind said of Florence: "She is a wonderful lady and she still looks after herself at home."
