TOTTON councillors are fighting the latest proposal to build a KFC and a Costa Coffee next to the Rushington roundabout.
The original application to provide both companies with a restaurant and drive-thru was withdrawn after protests.
Gentian Development Group has now submitted a revised scheme, including a new layout and design, to overcome the objections.
But Totton and Eling Town Council is recommending the district council to reject the proposal.
They are worried about the prospect of litter, anti-social behaviour and extra traffic problems at the busy roundabout.
Town clerk Derek Biggs said: “The general feeling was that it’s probably a bit too much and could cause problems within the town.”
But Gentian defended the scheme, saying it represented a major investment in the town and would create about 70 jobs.
A spokesman said: “A detailed transport assessment confirmed that the scheme will not be adding significant traffic to the network.
“All parties involved in this project are experienced operators, and as such will implement a considerate neighbours scheme, ensuring that staff and customers respect the amenity of local residents.
“The scheme will also include measures to see the areas around the site are regularly monitored for litter.”
The district council is due to debate the application next month.
