SOUTHAMPTON Test MP Alan Whitehead visited a Southern Water treatment works to see the progress of a major upgrade.
The company is investing £25 million at Millbrook Wastewater Treatment Works, in the Western Docks, Southampton.
The project, to enhance the treatment process, will ensure the water leaving the site and recycled into the Solent is of the best possible quality.
Already constructed is a new treatment unit measuring 92 metres in length – the same as ten double-decker buses.
The tank will contain bacteria that will break down particles in the wastewater as it flows through.
This will add an extra stage of treatment to the 70 million litres of wastewater treated per day at the site, from a population of about 140,000 people.
