One Hampshire brass band can be forgiven for blowing their own trumpets following their success at the Wessex Brass Band Championships.
Otterbourne Brass, conducted by Lt-Col Chris Davis, swept the board in the first section at the championships in Weymouth, in both group and individual categories. The band's performance of Essay by Edward Gregson, the set piece played by all bands competing, wowed judges and won them the cup.
The award for best euphonium player in the section went to 17-year-old Adam Lownds, while Tania Moonesinghe won the cup for best cornet player.
