A PENSIONER from a village near Alresford has been jailed for attacking a woman.
Clive Hunt, 72, of Lymington Bottom Road, Medstead, was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison for assaulting Valerie Hunt on April 1.
Magistrates in Basingstoke said the assault was so serious, sustained and in a domestic setting, that there was no alternative to prison.
The court heard there was a history of call-outs because of violence to Ms Hunt.
Hunt had admitted the charge at an earlier hearing.
He was also told to pay costs of £85. There was no order for compensation because Hunt was jailed.
A restraining order was also imposed, prohibiting Hunt from assaulting or threatening Ms Hunt.
Hunt has been released because of the time he spent on remand awaiting sentence.
