WHO better to launch Winchester Cathedral’s Symphony of Flowers festival than a women named Hyacinth Bucket?
Actress Patricia Routledge, who played the character in TV comedy Keeping Up Appearances, officially opened the event which will see thousands of flowers on display.
It opened to the public today and is the first such event at the cathedral for ten years.
The event was organised by the cathedral and the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies.
In keeping with the title every display has a musical theme, while the festival is also raising funds to refurbish the cathedral organ, which dates to the Great Exhibition in 1851.
Symphony of Flowers runs from today until Sunday, from 9am-5pm, but remains open until 8pm tonight and on Friday, with tickets priced £10.
