AN ELDERLY WOMAN'S 62-year-old engagement ring is at the centre of a police investigation.
Police believe whoever stole or found the ring may have now sold it.
The ring was a tight fit on the 81-year-old woman’s finger, but sometime between May 12 and 17, the ring disappeared from the woman’s home at Chine Avenue, Southampton.
The woman suffers from memory loss, so the exact time, date and location of the loss is unknown.
The ring is a yellow gold band with a solitare diamond. It is valued at about £1,000 and was given to the woman by her late husband in 1951.
PC Sophie Hill said: “We are appealing for anyone who has bought the ring or has been offered such a ring to contact the police as soon as possible.
“The ring is of huge sentimental value to its owner, and we are eager to reunite her with the ring.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Hill at Bitterne on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
