WINCHESTER residents came out in force today to oppose plans to build homes on a playground.
The city council wants to replace green space in Westman Road, Weeke, with 14 council houses.
The council argues the playground is not well used and is a source of anti-social behaviour.
But residents dispute that.
Georgette Miller, of Uplands Road, said: “I come here all times of day with my dog and I never see any bad behaviour.
“I see children playing or sitting down to chat.
“If the council takes this away where will they go?”
Aden Craig, 13, of Stoney Lane, added: “I come here to play basketball because it is the only place around with a hoop.
“I have a lot of fun with my friends here and we would really miss it if it was gone.”
A public consultation into the future of the playground is ongoing and residents have until June 26 to submit their opinions.
