A HAMPSHIRE motorway has been fully reopened this morning after a horror crash that left a motorway worker with serious head injuries.
Traffic was diverted off the M3 after the busy motorway was closed between junctions 12 to Chandler's Ford and 13 to Eastleigh following the accident that happened at 3.10pm yesterday.
The worker, a 54-year-old man from Derbyshire, was taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance after an articulated lorry crashed into three stationary maintenance vehicles on the northbound carriageway between.
He remains in a serious condition.
The flatbed lorry and two vans were parked on the hard shoulder when the lorry struck them and two of his colleagues - a 41-year-old man from Derbyshire and a 43-year-old Southampton man - were also taken to hospital with less serious injuries.
The driver of the articulated lorry, a 58-year-old Birmingham man, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving and bailed until September 24.
As a result the motorway was closed causing severe gridlock around the area that lasted beyond last night's rush hour.
Hampshire police have said the remaining road closures were lifted overnight and traffic this morning should be unaffected.
Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact police on 101, or 0845 045 4545 from outside Hampshire, quoting Operation Idris.
