SOUTHAMPTON is very much in the running to become the UK’s next City of Culture, according to the bookies.
Ahead of an announcement on the final, four-strong shortlist this week the city’s joint bid for the 2017 title with Portsmouth is currently ranked 8/1 by William Hill.
Swansea Bay has leapt into the lead with odds of 4/1 ahead of an expected announcement tomorrow.
The Welsh city’s bid is followed by Leicester and Chester (both 5/1), Hull (6/1) and Aberdeen and Southampton and Portsmouth (8/1). They are followed by Dundee and Plymouth (both 10/1), Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea (12/1), Southend-on-Sea (14/1) and East Kent (16/1).
