IT will be the photographic competition of the summer.
The Daily Echo has teamed up with Business Solent and Discover Southampton to launch the search for the best images that sum up the wonderful city of Southampton.
We know that the port city at the heart of our regional community is worth shouting about. We know that it has a heart of gold, a willing spirit, a dramatic history and a bold future. Now, as partners, we want to capture that spirit to help promote the city and enable future generations to experience what life in Southampton is like at the start of the 21st century.
We are asking readers to send us the photographs they believe show the very best of Southampton. You don’t have to live or work in the city, but the images must be of life within the city boundaries.
We will be looking for images that show Southampton culture or its commerce or its architecture. And of course images of Southampton’s people and visitors apply just as much as bricks and mortar, glass and steel.
Photographs must be current, although they can have been created over the past year or so provided buildings and features shown are still in situ.
Our panel of judges, including Southern Daily Echo Picture Editor Paul Collins will judge the very best and choose an outright winner and runners-up.
The best photograph will be turned into a large canvas print for the photographer to keep. Many of the images will be used to help promote the city on the Daily Echo’s website, Destination Southampton and some in print form.
There will also be photographic vouchers worth £250 for the top image, £100 for the first runner-up and £50 for the third place.
Property consultant James Prowse, representing Business Solent, said: “We’re looking for images that show what a surprising and fantastic place Southampton is to live, work and play in. Places, buildings and spaces that say something unique about the city.
“Discover Southampton is the window through which people, inside and outside of the city, will get a glimpse of what it has to offer and be invited to visit, study and invest.”
How to enter:
The competition launches today and will run throughout the summer, with
judging taking place in early September.
The judges’ decision will be final and usual Daily Echo terms and conditions
apply (see dailyecho.co.uk for details).
Entries should be emailed to the Best of Southampton at picdesk@dailyecho.co.uk.
By entering the competition entrants are deemed to have given permisison for their images to be used on the Daily Echo website as well as for Business Solent and Discover Southampton to promote the region and may appear in printed form in both the Daily Echo and related publications.
