ORGANISERS of today’s Totton carnival say it will be the biggest celebration in the event’s 99-year history.
With just 12 months to go to the centenary, carnival bosses are vowing to provide the town’s 28,000 residents with an ideal warm-up.
A total of 40 floats will make the two-mile journey from Calmore Industrial Estate to Eling Recreation Ground.
The theme of this year’s carnival is Totton Goes To The Movies, which has provided the organisations taking part with plenty of scope.
A Bug’s Life, Grease and The Wizard of Oz are just three of the Hollywood blockbusters that will feature in the parade.
The floats are due to move off at 4pm following an opening ceremony performed by former Totton College pupil Aaron Phipps, a member of the British wheelchair rugby team that took part in last year’s London Paralympics.
But the celebrations will begin at Eling two hours earlier.
Peppa Pig, Mickey Mouse and Woody from Toy Story will be among the children’s favourites making an appearance at the recreation ground from 2pm. Music at the ground will include Crystal Cooper, Southampton Musical Society, Riskology and The Mighty Shrimps.
