FOUR tortoises, two of them more than 30 years old, have been stolen from a Hampshire garden, police said.

The animals disappeared from wooden hutches in the back garden of a home in Birch Grove, Boyatt Wood and police believe those responsible may have got in over the wall into the garden.

A 61-year-old woman who owns them reported the theft, which happened sometime between 7pm on Saturday and 7.45pm on Sunday.

The tortoises are called Martha, Morla, Quasimodo and Herman.

The two females are larger, aged 32, and have unusual bumpy shells, while the two smaller males are aged eight or nine years old and one has a flattened off top to his shell.

Their value is not known.

Any witnesses or anyone with information or who has been offered a tortoise is asked to call Eastleigh Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
