HE IS not yet 21, but by the end of this weekend Sean McGowan will have chalked up five Glastonbury appearances.

He will join the likes of The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys and Mumford & Sons in Somerset from today.

And the Southampton singer-songwriter promises to spread the home town love to 150,000-plus revellers.

“Everywhere I go,” he laughs. “I’m going to do some new songs and one of them is called Millbrook Road. It’s a story of my personal experiences with relationships around Southampton.

It’s where I’m from and I like to sing about it! I think this is a story worth telling.”

The Millbrook Road song will feature when Sean appears in Billy’s Radical Round Up in the Left Field area.

Singer-songwriter and activist Billy Bragg introduces four of his favourite acts that he thinks have something worth saying and talks them through some of their songs.

“It’s all gone a bit mental really. This year has just been a bit crazy. Billy Bragg seems to be a massive fan – and Frank Turner.

“Pete Doherty has mentioned me too. I can hardly believe it,” Sean adds.

“It’s going to be a very busy weekend at Glastonbury, but I can’t wait.”

Sean is hoping to perform in front of even larger crowds than when he supported Reverend and the Makers, Shed Seven and Billy Bragg and will also appear in The Rabbit Hole and Acid Lounge and alongside Sam Duckworth of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly fame among his five shows before Sunday.

It is only the second year he’s performed at festivals and, later this summer, Sean will also appear at Blissfields and Bestival before recording new material in the autumn.
