A HAMPSHIRE children's charity is gearing up for its carol concert extravaganza.

Footballer Francis Benali and author Leslie Thomas will attend the Honeypot Charity Carol Concert, taking place on Monday, December 4 at Winchester Cathedral.

The Mayor of Winchester Councillor Sue Nelmes will give a reading at the concert - the charity's biggest annual fundraiser.

The Phoenix Choir of St Swithun's School and soloist Rhian Jones will lead the music, but there will be plenty of opportunity for the audience to sing along.

All proceeds from the event will go towards Honeypot's work in Hampshire. The charity, which celebrated its tenth birthday this year, provides respite holidays in the New Forest for disadvantaged children as well as support in children's own homes.

At Christmas, this includes delivering a present to each of the 1,800 children on the charity's books, as well as organising Christmas parties. About 1,000 guests attend the carol concert each year. Guests have previously included Esther Rantzen, David Gower, Charlie Dimmock and actress Honeysuckle Weeks.
